Making recycled bicycle seat covers

Re-cycled comfort – Bums on Seats was the name of the workshop I ran at the Dales Countryside Museum to make bicycle saddle covers out of glorious Camira Blaser Fabric, felt and crocheted doilies.  Our participants left us some fantastic stories and helped to label my saddle covers.  These together with archive images and the bicycle love stories sent in will be shown in an exhibition at the Museum that runs from June 13th to September 30th.

Meeting Fred Taylor and his extended family was the highlight of my day, Grampy as he is known has 3 tandems and 22 bikes, and has dragged his children and grandchildren up many a mountain (he even found one in Norfolk) on every family holiday.  After 33 successful attempts at the 3 Peaks Cycle Cross he only just hung up his bicycle clips. His daughter commented that he also has a lifetime’s supply of break blocks having had to “bail out and bite the black stuff” on several occasions.
